Net Income

Take-home income remaining after taxes and other deductions are subtracted from gross income.

For individuals, net income (often called take-home pay) reflects what actually gets deposited after federal and state tax withholding, Social Security and Medicare taxes, and any voluntary deductions like retirement contributions or insurance premiums. Budgeting based on net rather than gross income avoids overestimating what's actually available to spend.
