Sinking Fund

Money saved gradually and set aside for a specific, planned future expense.

Unlike an emergency fund, which covers unpredictable events, a sinking fund is used for known upcoming costs, such as a car replacement, annual insurance premium, or holiday spending. Breaking large expenses into smaller monthly contributions ahead of time helps avoid relying on debt when the expense arrives.
