Routing Number

A nine-digit code that identifies a specific bank or credit union for transferring funds.

Used alongside an account number, the routing number directs transactions like direct deposits, wire transfers, and bill payments to the correct financial institution. Some banks use different routing numbers for different transaction types, such as domestic transfers versus wire transfers.
