Insurance

Coinsurance

The percentage of a covered medical cost you pay after meeting your deductible.

For example, a plan with 20% coinsurance means the insurer pays 80% of a covered cost after the deductible is met, and the policyholder pays the remaining 20%, up to the plan's out-of-pocket maximum. After that maximum is reached, the insurer typically covers 100% of further covered costs for the rest of the plan year.
